Oars could become the latest must-have accessory at city hall.
A Dubbo City Council team of councillors and council staff took on Dubbo City Toyota in a corporate challenge in dragon boating.
The “young, fit motor mechanics” had no trouble emerging as victors by more than a boat length, Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson said.
“It was incredibly close – for the first five metres of the race,” he said.
The paddle along the Macquarie River on Thursday was organised to raise funds for the Dubbo Outback Dragon Boat Club.
For many of the eight councillors and two directors it was their first experience with the sport, Cr Dickerson said.
Councillors Dickerson, Lyn Griffiths, Bill Kelly, Greg Mohr, Kevin Parker, Ben Shields, Rod Towney and John Walkom and directors David Dwyer and Craig Giffin paddled from Sandy Beach to the pontoon and back with instruction from club members.
“It gave us a feel for the sport,” Cr Dickerson said.
